Where should I go on a kitesurfing holiday from December till March
We are seeing alot of posts on facebook looking for advice “where should I go on a kitesurfing holiday from December till March”
Well with out jumping to the conclusion of this article to quickly, the answer is Watamu, Kenya. Read on to find out why Watamu should be your next kitesurfing holiday destination.
Consitent reliable wind
The season in question (Dec-Mar) is refered to as the Kaskazi season. The wind is a Northerly trade wind that coverts into a nice North Easterly wind with the sea breeze effect. This meands that we get wind starting from around 11-12 each day and blowing all the way past sunset. The added bonus of this is that the ocean is beautiful and calm in the mornings so you can either enjoy a nice holiday lie-in or get out and explore the beautiful marine life that we have in the national marine park. This upcomiong 2021 season is setting up to be a windy one read our last blog to understand why here.
Ideal riding conditions
Althought we have ticked the box of good wind, what makes Watamu even better is the fantastic riding conditions. With lots of flat water riding spots created by the collection of sandbars that cover the bay. In addition to this the main kite beach has very few harazrds, there is a large expance of sea grass with little to no coral. Then the added bonus there are no sea urchins, this is due to Watamu being a protected marine park so the natural predetors of the sea urchin are not over fished which keeps the swarming effect of sea urchins under control.

Its Covid safe
Recent published and credited research indicates that high levels of vitimin D not only reduces the risk of catching COvid 19 it also significantly reduces the severity of the symptoms if you were unlucky to cath it. This may be the reason we have seen such little impact in covid cases in the Watamu area through the whole global pandemic due to high average tempratures and loks of sunshine. That added to the fact December till March is our Summer then i think it would be safe to consider Watamu a Covid-19 safe destination. Kenya was also the first country globally to be awarded the safer tourism stamp of approval.
